Art on Friday: Edward Burne Jones

 

Sir Edward Burne Jones (Birmingham, 28 augustus 1833 – Fulham, 17 juni 1898) was a British artist and designer closely accosiated with the later phase of the Pre-Raphaelite movement.

In addition to painting and stained glass, Burne-Jones worked in a variety of crafts; including designing ceramic tiles, jewellery, tapestries, mosaics and book illustrations.

Art on Friday: John William Waterhouse

When my blog was in Dutch there was a time when I wrote a weekly Friday art blog. Unfortunately there weren't a lot of people who liked art or appreciated art. So now I will try again and hopefully their will be more people who will like it. I can't change the tags that are already in Dutch, but art is 'kunst' in Dutch. If you want to read former art blogs, please do!

My favorite era is truly the Pre-Raphealite Brotherhood .
Influenced by that circle was one John William Waterhouse. I'm not one for copying texts from sites so his bio will be linked.

I love his work as I do that of Dante Gabriel Rossetti's and other Pre-Raphealite painter's.

Zelfportret

Lourens beter bekend als Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema is een in Nederland geboren schilder ( 8 Januari Donrijp-25 Juni Wiesbaden) en werd vooral beroemd in Engeland om zijn luxueuze en decadente schilderijen van het Romeinse Rijk. Hij is een van de meest vooraanstaande Negentiende-eeuwse schilders van Engeland.

Kunst op vrijdag: Vladimir Kush

Vladimir Kush (geboren 1965) is een Russische geboren surrealistische schilder en beeldhouwer. Hij studeerde aan het Surikov Moscow Art Institute , en na een aantal jaren werkzaam te zijn geweest als kunstenaar in Moskou, zijn geboortestad, emigreerde hij naar de Verenigde Staten, uiteindelijk richtte hij zijn eigen galerie op op het eiland Maui in Hawaï .
Hoewel zijn stijl wordt vaak omschreven als surrealistisch , verwijst Kush zichzelf  als 'metaforische realisme' en de vroege invloed op zijn stijl van Salvador Dalí 's surrealistische schilderijen en landschappen door de Duitse romantische schilder Caspar David Friedrich. Een andere invloed op zijn werk is geweest van de 16e eeuwse Nederlandse schilder Jeroen Bosch , bekend om zijn fantastische beeldspraak en soms gekarakteriseerd als "de pre-Surrealisme Surrealistische".Vleugels, schepen, en kleur-verzadigde zeegezichten zijn frequente thema's in zijn schilderijen.
